A Message from the Boise Ridge Riders

For 2008 we have found it necessary to significantly raise the entry fee for the Idaho City 100 National ISDE Qualifier. As a club we felt an explanation of the reasons for this increase should be communicated to our entry base. It is because of you we have been able to create the premier event that is the Idaho City 100 and it will be because of you that the event will continue into the next quarter century.

It should come as no surprise almost every cost associated with the event continues to increase. Our event runs almost entirely on public ground. The permit costs for the use of this ground have increased dramatically. Environmental assessment costs that use to be born by government agencies are now being passed to the club to pay. These fees are significant. The cost of scoring has also become a major budget item as the need for electronic scoring has required us to hire a scoring crew. Insurance, dumpsters, toilets, etc. have all increased. It just costs a great deal of money to put the event on, but there is good news on the horizon.

The Forest Service is working with the club on the Boise Basin trail plan. Once our courses are designated trails, working with the governmental agencies should get easier. For the past decade we have had three courses which we rotate from year to year. We are working to develop and get designated a fourth course of mostly new trail. Unfortunately the club is going to have to pay for much of the environmental work on this new course—a hefty sum. We are working on reducing our expenses where we can by applying for grants to pay for tools and toilets and other materials that enhance the trail system we have. We are also looking for sponsors. We can assure you we are tightening our belts, but unfortunately increased fiscal responsibility is not enough.

Raising the entry fee for our event was a difficult and unfortunately necessary decision to make. It was not done easily. We as a club, however, will make you this promise. If you continue to support the Idaho City 100 we will do everything we can to continue to provide you with one of the best off road events in the country. We live here and we have a vested interest in keeping the area around Idaho City open and accessible for not only ourselves, but for anyone who respectfully wishes to ride these trails.
